Depth of field is the distance between the he nearest and the farthest objects that are in acceptably sharp focus in an image. The depth of field can be calculated based on focal length, distance to subject, the acceptable circle of confusion size, and aperture. Now your camera can only focus sharply at one point. Some of the ways that you can control the depth of field are you can adjust the size of the aperture. the F stop is a very important part to the depth of field. Change your distance from the focal point. As you move closer to your main point of focus, the image's depth  of field decreases moving further away increases the depth of field. you also need to choose the right focal length for your lends.
